Hello again - this week was fairly uneventful due to the pressure of preparing 200 "Hair High" shots for the camera before I leave for Annecy, France.

I would get up at 7 am, prep a few folders at home, then go to the office and work until 5, come home and complete another 2 folders - very tiring but necessary to get the film done in time for the editor in August to have it completed by October 3, the deadline for Sundance.

The high point was finally completing all of the main voices - we recorded Jay O. Sanders as the football announcer - he was perfect - and the lovely and charming Martha Plimpton (slight relation) as Miss Crumbles. Unfortunately Martha had the remnants of a cold, but she's a true pro - and she did a great job. Then, Michael Showalter, from "Wet Hot American Summer" did the voice of Wally - he was terrific!

I'm so happy with all the voices. I think that one of the strong points of "Hair High" is the voice characterizations.

This week's cartoon again is a very early one, done around 1970, when I was in art school at SVA. Obviously, I was experimenting with grass at that time and created this cartoon of a hippie getting stoned. Unfortunately, it's missing two elements - the last drawing is missing, as the smoke dissipates, the guy disappears - also, it is supposed to be in vivid, psychedelic color.

So, now I'm off to Annecy, you'll get a full report next week. Also, I'll be seeing "Finding Nemo" and "The Triplettes of Belleville" - I'm very excited to see both of those films.

Au revoir,

Bill Plympton

P.S. Congratulations to Celia "Chow Champ" Bullwinkel, the winner of the first Bill Plympton Studio Falafel-Off eating contest. Celia took on John "Honky" Holderried on May 16 and emerged the winner, eating an entire falafel sandwich in under 2 minutes!
